Ark of Adventure

This workshop rotation model allows children to learn and retain Biblical stories through a variety of learning styles, by rotating through various workshops. Biblical themes are taught for four/five week intervals using experiential learning techniques. A Pilot travels with each class of children to their destination each week. Our members have made Ark of Adventure possible for the children of First Congregational Church of Madison through their generosity of time, talent, and love.

Living God's Word

The Ark of Adventure continues . . . and this year our theme is "Living God's Word," which begins with Peer Pressure - Peter's denial and ends with Anger Management - David and Abigail. The Bible is full of characters that witness the very existence of god in their lives and pass that experience on to future generations. The acknowledgement that God exists and is present in our lives is a primary cornerstone of our faith. To know, feel, sense and experience God in our own personal and corporate lives is a continuing witness to that existence. We are called to share that witness because our God is an awesome God.

Individual Workshops

God's Treasure Chest - This is a place where Bible stories are heard, read, shared and experienced with costumed storytellers portraying Biblical characters. Children also learn about the geographical settings of the stories in this workshop.

Disciples on Deck - This is a creative place where young people reenact Bible stories with stage sets, lighting and costumes. Additionally, the puppet ministry brings the Bible stories to life in a stimulating, fun, hands-on environment.

Winds and Waves of Worship - Here, our voyagers stretch their bodies, as they experience Bible stories through movement, music, games and fun activities.

Jonah's Whale - Lights! Camera! Action! Enter this whale's mouth and our voyagers find themselves in our movie theater. Pick up  drink, a bag of popcorn, take a seat to watch and discuss a movie on this month's Bible theme.

Colors of the Rainbow - Our voyagers experience this month's Bible story through a variety of creative art projects. Many of their masterpieces will be shared with local children's hospitals, nursing homes, etc. This workshop is sure to move one's spirit in a creative way!

God's Galley - Enter our church kitchen on any given Sunday and you will find our voyagers preparing "soul food" items that are symbolic or representative of the Bible lesson or culture.

Fish.net - Interactive software programs enable our voyagers to explore the Bible, research faith stories and communicate with young faith seekers around the globe.

Voyager Registration

All Voyagers (children) must be registered for the upcoming year. Registration forms are available from Candy Guerette or the Church Office.

Nursery Care will continue to be available every Sunday. If you are new to the church and have not met our nursery attendant, Sally Waite, please stop in an introduce yourself. Volunteers are also needed to assist Sally.

Navigators/Pilots Needed

We have several openings for Navigators (teachers) and Pilots (teacher assistants). Our curriculum is user-friendly and the workshops are 4-5 week sessions. Our Navigators teach for 4-5 weeks, in an area that you feel most comfortable sharing your gifts. For example, if you are artistic, we encourage you to sign up for our Colors of the Rainbow (art room) Workshop. If you enjoy storytelling, you can share your gifts in God's Treasure Chest (storytelling room) Workshop. Our Pilots share their Navigator-assistant role with another Pilot, which gives them an opportunity to share the responsibilities. Please call us at 245-2739 ext. 15, if you are interested in sharing your time and talents in any of the above volunteer opportunities.
